Heel pain
“Heel pain” can be located underneath or in back of the heel bone. It can be related to stress placed on the plantar fascia ligament, which runs under the bottom of the foot from the toes to the heel bone, or over use of the Achilles tendon in the back of the leg. These are most often associated with over use or repetitive type motions. The conditions can be related to a number of external or internal factors.
The conditions are most often managed non surgically with treatment modalities including rest, ice, compression, elevation, stretching, and anti-inflammatory medication. Typical treatment also involves the use of arch supports or custom molded orthotics. In addition, physical therapy may be needed for conditions that do not initially respond to the treatment.
